Developers are breaking ground next week on a new downtown Dallas luxury hotel.

Plano-based Sam Moon Group is building the 283-room JW Marriott hotel on Ross Avenue across the street from the Trammell Crow Center office skyscraper.

The 15-story luxury hotel — one of the first such projects to start during the pandemic — was announced last fall. The 15-story hotel tower will be built on top of a new 10-story parking garage at Ross and Harwood Street.

Designed by Dallas architect firm HKS, the JW Marriott Hotel is the first for the hotel brand in Dallas.

Sam Moon Group and Stream Realty Partners will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the project on Dec. 10.

DPR Construction is the general contractor for the more than $125 million high-rise.

The hotel will take about two years to build.

While the hotel sector has been one of the hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, several new North Texas hotels have announced start plans in the last few months.
